Recently I came across a very interesting Book named “The Librarian of Burned Books” written by ‘Brianna Labuskes’
In this Book, Author has meticulously tried to navigate through various events and aspects related to World War _2 with the main focus on Books_ Whether it is about Books getting Burned in Germany in 1933 or getting banned in US while WW2 was in full swing. First, let me share the basic crux of the story and then will tell you what has intrigued me here.
The story basically revolves around three females_ all somewhere been entangled with the strings of WW2 especially that of Nazi Party’s doings. One Story is from Berlin, 1933. Next one moves to Paris around the year 1936/37 and then last one in New York around the year 1944. One thing which vibrates strongly here with all three characters is the destruction of Books or putting sanctions on the books which essential means putting sanction on knowledge, on the information that could and should be available to any person at a given point of time.
What got more of my attention here is the Armed Services Edition! Though I have read a lot about World War 2 especially what happened during Nazi Regime but so far have never stumbled upon the ASE. So figured out that, Armed Services Edition, an initiative by the US government, were those books which were categorically sent to the soldiers _ US soldiers during WW2 where a team of people used to put the ideal books for these soldiers together. These Books included an array of fiction and non-fiction titles which also included classics, contemporary bestsellers, Biographies, drama, poetry and fiction genre. This little attempt kept soldiers entertained and at the same time well aware and connected.
This Book is a great way to visit the history rather to live in it especially if one is interested in WW2 and the rule of Nazis in Europe.
This Book is by Brianna Labuskes. I am sharing the link below of this novel, just in case you are intrigued to read it.
