Taliban was very active and had occupied around 90% of Afghanistan by 2001. They had imposed strict sharia Law in all of the Taliban ruled Afghanistan and life for civilians had become very difficult.
On September 11th 2001, US witnessed horrifying terrorist attacks which forced US to lead a military campaign to overthrow Al-Qaeda (the terrorist group which had carried on these attacks) and the Afghan group Taliban which was supporting these attacks. During this time, Afghanistan was able to form a new Afghan Government which helped and supported the civilians and life was somewhat restored to better as compared to before.
In February 2020, US had agreed to withdraw their military forces by May’2021 after good 20 years. However they had asked Taliban to cut all the connections with Al- Qaeda wherein Taliban will not support them in anyway. However Taliban never abided by this and there were numerous meetings between Taliban and Afghan Government before US military withdrew from Afghanistan.
No one is sure about what the future holds for the regular civilians as Taliban is strictly adhering to its belief system till date and might implement the same laws all over as it was till 2001. If that happens, several women will loose their income which would directly effect their livelihoods. Daily medical facilities will also be compromised.
The situation has already started worsening. Afghan government is fighting the Taliban and is supported by US government. However the number of causalities are increasing day by day. Heavy clashes are taking place daily in Afghanistan. Recently an Indian photographer Journalist Danish Siddiqui from Reuters also lost his life in one of such conflict between Afghan forces and Taliban. However later it was observed that his body was badly mutilated and Taliban is rumored to have taken him and murdered him after verifying his identification.
